Programming Eproms

Procedure to program an Eprom

The programming Eproms section explains how to program and read the Eprom memory cards.

An EPROM programming interface is integrated in the PG. If a PC is used, an external EPROM programming unit ("external prommer") can be connected to the parallel interface.

Functions of the STEP5 package (Windows 95) or a dedicated EPROM driver (Windows NT) must be used to program an Eprom. The EPROM is programmed and reading-out outside of the WF470WIN in the console application "WF470EPR.EXE".

Refer to the information in Section Installation if you have difficulties with the Eprom function.

Data transfer to and from WF470EPR.EXE is handled using data files. WF470WIN writes the contents of the lists, marked in an Eprom group directory, into a file (binary), or lists the contents of such a file. You cannot see when data is being transferred via the file on the screen, and the file is deleted again after processing.

Dialog box, editing the Eprom card

The dialog box, "Edit Eprom card" is opened when the "File/Eprom..." menu item is selected:

An Eprom card, inserted in the programming socket in the PG or an externally connected programmer, can be read or programmed from the dialog box "Edit Eprom card".

Programming the Eprom

To program an Eprom, the Eprom group file, the card type and type of programmer is selected.

Select the Eprom group file in the "Eprom group file" combination box, whose contents you wish to write onto the Eprom card.

Then, from the combo box "card type" select the right card type. This type must on one hand, correspond as far as the capacity is concerned, to the length of the Eprom group file, and on the other hand, must correspond to the card hardware.

Ensure that the card hardware corresponds to the Eprom type which you selected, as otherwise the Eprom module could be destroyed when it is programmed.

It is not possible to re-program Eproms which have already been programmed.

Start programming using the "Write" button. A progress bar shows you how programming is proceeding.

Reading the Eprom

To read an Eprom card, only the card type and programmer have to be selected. In this case, the entry in the combo box "Eprom group file" is not evaluated.
Reading is started using the "Read" button.
After data has been read-out of the Eprom, it is displayed in the same form as in the Eprom group directory. The dialog box is closed using the "Close" button.
